5 Handy things to take Travelling
Whether it’s a cheeky weekend away or you’re travelling around the whole of Asia, there are a few items I think could really help you out
I try sooo hard not to take a lot of ‘stuff’ with me…anywhere…ever! I’m lazy and would rather not carry anything or have a bag with me.. So when it comes to lugging a bag through airports and across cities there are a few things that I would say ARE definitely go to items to help you through your time away from home!
Now I find these are extra good if you’re on the road a lot travelling from place to place OR if you’re a bit of a germaphobe! They are simple manual toothbrushes that fold inside themselves. Not only does it keep your other items dry and your toothbrush clean but it’s so compact saving that little bit more space!
A must have now a days! If you’re like me and take hundreds of photos or are the designated google maps pro, your phone is likely to die relatively quickly.. I’ve tried many portable chargers over the years but have found that this portable charger is the best for me! It’s slim and not too big, can just about fit in your pocket (definitely fits easily into a fanny pack). This version has 2 USB ports and a torch (why not!? Haha).
3. Talking of fanny packs/bum bags…
Great addition for your travelling needs. In most of our photos from Vietnam you’ll likely see Ash or myself with a fanny pack. Now because we were off on an adventure we chose a simple waterproof fanny pack… These actually worked really well and had the added benefit of being my sick bag one winding coach journey in the hills of Dalat (sorry TMI!). Ash also had a fanny pack like this one with him like which was very simple but had lots of zip compartments…
Very handy!
My recommendation is think before you buy..
What are you going to be putting in here? My go to items were: Phone, passport, tissues, maps, tickets.. things that would be needed quickly or I wanted to keep safe)
Where will you be using it?
Since Vietnam was a mixture of places but did include beaches/boat rides/canyoning etc I chose a waterproof version to cover every possibility..
Can I wear it easily with my other bags/jackets etc?
Pockets pockets pockets! Having more compartments can help you organise your *stuff*!
4. Eye mask
Now I know what you’re thinking.. on a lot of the long haul flights they give you eye masks (unless you’re cheapskates like me and fly super budget airlines!)
BUT my tip: Get an eye mask that is shaped. This just means within the design they’ve actually accounted for the fact you have a nose. These just fit much better and block out the light more - which is the whole point!
The eye mask saved my following day on many occasions but especially when we were travelling on the night bus. I chose to buy a set which meant the mask came in a small bag with foam ear-plugs.. every little helps!
THIS. Oh my goodness - having peace of mind that you have your own towel squished into your bag if you should need it. Extra useful for space saving! (I love a space saving ‘gadget’!)
The idea behind these are that it is a full size towel which dries you quickly but the towel doesn’t stay wet for long… So It can be packed away quick.. very handy!
These are the first things that pop into my head but let me know in the comments what you can’t live without whilst exploring another country!
